There’s a special category of “surgical N95” masks that are generally not available for sale to the public that the CDC says should continued to be reserved for health care settings.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated their mask guidance advising Americans to “wear the most protective mask you can” to fight the spread of the omicron variant.

Unlike cloth masks, you are not going to wash a surgical mask, an N95 or a KN95. You can re-wear them, but you should put them in a paper bag for about two days between uses.
