In October, Sony cut its rear-projection TV sales target for the year to March by 43 percent to 400,000 units.

Last generation’s top QD-OLED model, the Sony Bravia XR A95L, is still for sale as well and, despite being $1,000 more, may be worth considering if you don’t mind buying a TV from last year.

Sony Corp <6758.T> said on Thursday it will withdraw from the rear-projection TV market as it focuses its resources on liquid crystal display TVs and organic light-emitting diodes.

Sony claims that it has 125 percent the peak brightness of the A95L and 150 percent of last year’s Bravia 8, which will remain on sale as an OLED-but-not-QD option.

In the fiscal half-year through September, Sony lost 60 billion yen ($526.3 million) in its TV operations, partly because of losses tied to rear-projection TVs.
