A historic lodge on the Grand Canyon’s North Rim has been destroyed by a wildfire, the park’s superintendent confirmed Sunday.

Longtime Golden West coach Drew Hall of Visalia was described as fit and active but was hiking in very rugged terrain, park rangers said.

The fire that burned for days on the North Rim of Grand Canyon before it became uncontrollable was "expertly handled," the National Park Service said.
