The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a solid, very good phone. It’s exactly what you’d expect it to be, and nothing more.

The rear camera array represents the only other notable hardware difference between S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra. Namely, the ultrawide lens has been upgraded from 12MP a year ago to 50MP this year. Aside from that, everything else is the same: a 200MP wide lens, 50MP telephoto lens, and 12MP selfie camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip and 12GB RAM. The phone has also received a AU$50 price drop against the launch price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, making it a slightly more attractive and accessible device. The most obvious change is to its design, as it’s a more rounded phone than previous Ultra models.

Samsung’s Galaxy S-series is in its software era. Maybe the whole smartphone industry is, too, save for a few phones with hinges (Samsung’s included). But overall, we have exited the hardware-driven innovation cycle and are firmly in the midst of a software-based one.
