Yesterday, the Rosetta probe began a 13-hour free fall that ended in a (relatively) gentle crash at the Ma’at landing site at 6:39 a.m. ET on Friday.
ESA guided Rosetta to the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko on Sept. 30 last year, ending its 12-year mission.
Rosetta’s crash site is not too far from Philae’s first and final touchdown sites after its bumpy landing in 2014. All three sites are on the smaller of Comet 67P’s two lobes.
New images have revealed more jets of water vapour (shown) on Comet 67P. They were revealed in a blog post for Esa, headquartered in Paris.
