The Town of Merrillville is establishing a municipal Park Board and is inviting residents to apply for appointment to it.

An 11-year-old was shot in the back while in a North Lawndale park on Saturday, according to police. Lynn Hamilton, best known for her roles in "Sanford and Son" and "The Waltons," died on June 19.
