Joe Mansueto, the soccer team’s billionaire owner, announced plans for the privately funded stadium in a public letter, saying construction could begin late this year.

It looks like a resident will finally be moving in to anchor “The 78,” the vacant piece of land in Chicago’s South Loop that’s been a proposed site for several developments over the years, most recently a new White Sox stadium.

Morningstar founder Joe Mansueto chose to build his own stadium at The 78 in part because it's the political path of least resistance, though it will require tens of millions in subsidies for utilities to prep the site.
