A self-portrait by Rembrandt sold for £14.5 million ($18.7 million) at a virtual auction Tuesday – a record price for a self-portrait by the Dutch master, according to auctioneer Sotheby’s.

A Rembrandt self-portrait has been sold for a total of £14.5m ($18.8m) in a major Sotheby's auction in London. The winning bid was £12.6 million ($16.3 million), with fees added on top.

A small self-portrait painted in 1632 by Rembrandt is the centerpiece of Sotheby’s upcoming London auction, and it could help gauge the art market’s return to normal.

The self-portrait, which has rarely been seen as it’s been held in a private collection, is expected to sell for at least $15 million.
