The team’s chief, John May, said they usually respond to more hiking rescues within the Red River Gorge, but Sunday’s rescue involved a rock climber from Massachusetts.

Red River Gorge Air Tours opened in July, and the attraction offers birds-eye-views of the awe-inspiring sandstone arch, in addition to the gorge’s other iconic rock formations.

Last spring, the Red River crested at 27.13 feet on May 28, but stayed well above its normal flow height until the middle of summer and didn’t reach a normal height until fall.

This Saturday is the last weekend of the year for the Red River Gorge Farmers Market. They encourage people to come check them out at least once on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
