Rangers didn’t just hire Mike Sullivan on a whim. Maybe the Rangers didn’t win the Stanley Cup, but there was much to be happy about and build upon from the 2023-24 campaign.

They hired Peter Laviolette, who won a Cup as coach of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. This hiring looked to be the one who could not lose.

Sullivan, 57, replaces Peter Laviolette, who was fired April 19, two days after the Rangers closed out the season with a 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
