When property damage happens, owners can file a Form 425 with the county clerk's office to request a reduction to their property's value. If the value is lowered, it lowers the property taxes.

Applications also can be filed for personal property, like mobile homes, planes and boats, so long as there’s at least $10,000 in damage, the Tax Collector’s Office said.
