A rising college football star was fatally shot by a former college basketball player while he visited his Florida hometown over the weekend for Mother’s Day, police said.

Brendan Michael Parsons, a former standout football player for Clairton High School, has been identified as the man who was shot and killed Sunday during a picnic in Allegheny County. He was 23.
