The Hammond Common Council approved a resolution Monday opposing a Lake County convention center at proposed sites in Gary and in Hobart.

The symbolic statement had Mayor Anthony Copeland at odds with the council over whether a new convention center in Gary would prove a boon or a disadvantage.
