Oladokun has branched into hip-hop territory with her recent single “ Fortune Favors the Bold,” which includes Nashville rapper Tim Gent on a verse over a seriously ’90s boom-bap beat.

Country, hip-hop and R&B all share a common ancestor in gospel music, and many stars who've dabbled in multiple genres — Jelly Roll and T-Pain, for two — cite gospel as a big influence.

While R&B is clearly alive, no one can deny that the genre has changed drastically. Hip-hop’s influence may be the major difference.

The show’s most memorable theme song was performed by DJ Eddie F, and Heavy D & The Boyz, which gave the song more of a hip-hop sound popular in the ‘90s.

Wiggins' sound takes cues from late-'90s and early-2000s R&B and hip-hop. Melodies are coated in nostalgia, with piano notes and chord progression that evoke passion.

The lineup features Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Treach, and EPMD. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 28. The show will feature a mix of old-school and modern hip-hop and R&B.

Funk Fest, described as the "ultimate Old School R&B/Hip Hop outdoor music experience," will take place from June 21-22. Doors open at 2 p.m. each day, with music starting at 4 p.m.
