Shawnee County Parks + Recreation says that Old Prairie Town Christmas is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Old Prairie Town/Ward-Meade Historic site at 124 NW Fillmore St.

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation on Thursday said the 150th anniversary celebration of Ward-Meade Mansion at Old Prairie Town, 124 N.W. Fillmore, will be held on Sept. 13 and 14.

Native American history hadn't been among the subjects highlighted at Old Prairie Town, the replica of an 1800s Kansas community at Topeka's Ward-Meade Park. That changed Friday.

Around 40 students from Topeka Collegiate's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes were sprucing up Old Prairie Town. Their efforts were part of United Way's annual Nancy Perry Day of Caring.

The study also will be open for those taking tours of Old Prairie Town. Tours are offered at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; noon and 2 p.m. Saturdays; and 2 p.m. Sundays.
