Nigeria's former president Muhammadu Buhari — who once ruled as a military dictator before returning decades later as an elected leader — has died at 82.

Nigeria's former president Muhammadu Buhari, who led Africa's most populous country between 2015 and 2023, has died in London, a presidential spokesman says. "President Buhari died today in London at about 4.30pm, following a prolonged illness," President Bola Tinubu's spokesman said in a post on X.
