Natural Bridge State Park is the second Virginia State Park to earn the certification. Sky Meadows State Park’s Children’s Discovery Area became a Nature Explore Classroom in 2018.

“At 200 feet tall, the Natural Bridge is estimated to weigh 36,000 tons or as much as 2,500 school busses,” the app narrated in one spot of the trail. “It’s an honor to be the first.

The visitor center will be open until 9 p.m. during the Illumination of the Bridge, along with Cedar Creek Trail until 10 p.m. However, the trail beyond the Natural Bridge will be closed.
