If he can quickly live up to his potential — or exceed it — the Mavericks could be contenders with a young star and a roster that includes Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington, Klay Thompson — and Irving, whenever he returns.

Fleming is a long and athletic forward known for his spot-up shooting ability and defensive energy. Sounds like a 3-and-D wing to me. He was the only player in the country last season to convert at least 40 dunks and 50 made 3-pointers, according to ESPN's Jay Bilas. He also does not lack for confidence.

Victor Wembanyama is a superstar-in-the-making, De'Aaron Fox is a former All-Star and Stephon Castle is a prototypical glue guy. Together they form an ostensibly sturdy foundation for the Spurs to build upon in the years to come. The newcomers could add even more long-term stability.
