New census data from the UK's Office for National Statistics reveals that "Muhammad" has become the most popular name for baby boys in England and Wales in recent years.

Meanwhile, Olivia was the most popular girls’ name in five out of nine regions in England and the most popular in Wales. Olivia has been in the top three for girls’ names every year since 2006.

Muhammad was the second most popular name in 2022 and has been in the top 10 most popular names for baby boys in England and Wales since 2016.

Oliver replaced George as the third most popular. For baby girls, the top three most popular names in 2023 – Olivia, Amelia and Isla – were unchanged from the previous year. Explore More ...
