The Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights continue to work on a potential sign-and-trade involving Mitch Marner, and the Leafs’ desired return has now come into sharper focus. According to NHL insider Bruce Garrioch,

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Las Vegas Golden Knights are engaged in "ongoing" discussions regarding a Mitch Marner sign-and-trade, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

If he signs with the Maple Leafs, he can get eight years. So in the sign-and-trade, Marner can get that eighth year on his deal (and Vegas can keep him for that extra year, as well). To get it done, the Knights would essentially have to line up what they'd be willing to return to the Maple Leafs for Marner.
