Former El Salvador President Mauricio Funes, who spent the final years of his life in Nicaragua to avoid various criminal sentences, died late Tuesday. He was 65.

Former President Mauricio Funes of El Salvador has been sentenced to six years in prison for tax evasion by an El Salvador court. This is the second time that Funes has been sentenced.
