A growing schism over LGBTQ+ issues within the United Methodist Church has prompted a quarter of congregations to leave as a Dec. 31 deadline nears.

In the last four years, more than 7,600 congregations across the U.S. have received approval to leave the United Methodist Church. Nearly three-quarters of those exits occurred this year.
