Lionel Messi has led Inter Miami to their first Club World Cup victory thanks to a brilliant second-half free kick against Porto. The European side took the lead early on with Samu Aghehowa scoring from the penalty spot in the eighth minute.

His latest came against Porto in the 2025 Club World Cup, a left-footed strike that gave Inter Miami the win — and pushed him past Brazil’s Marta to become the highest scorer in FIFA history.

Lionel Messi scored his first goal of the expanded Club World Cup on a patented free kick in the 54th minute to break a tie in Inter Miami's 2-1 victory over Porto on Thursday. Messi was taken down just outside the penalty area by Rodrigo Mora on a run down the middle of the field.
