The concert series was designed in part to revitalize Market Square and downtown Knoxville ... out with friends at Sundown in the City concerts, drinking a beer and listening to some good music.

Market Square got its start in 1854 when developers William Swan and Joseph Mabry donated the land to the city of Knoxville for a public market, according to the Knoxville History Project.
