Coby Mayo caused the benches to clear in Saturday's game between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox — then he fled the scene.

It’s easy to forget that, sometimes, baseball is a contact sport. On Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, it was contact on the basepaths that led to the benches clearing in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Orioles’ 4-2 win vs.

And so instead of giving up, he made a last-ditch effort to collide with a White Sox defender and earn an obstruction call. Mayo did make contact, but it was obviously forced and drew no such call from the umpire.
