In the words of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, today marks the “beginning of a new era in our city.” And to celebrate the big opening, rides across the entire Metro system—rail lines, buses, Metro Bike Share and rideshare service Metro Micro—are free from Friday through Sunday.

The Metro station at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street will connect to the K Line and C Line. Starting next year, travelers will be able to use the automated people mover train to and from LAX and the center.

The Los Angeles-area transit system will achieve a major milestone on Friday with the long-awaited opening of the LAX/Metro Transit Center station, bringing rail service the closest it has ever been to Los Angeles International Airport and giving travelers a new car-free option for reaching the airfield.
