The shift in lion behavior wasn’t unique to El Dorado County. In 1992, a 9-year-old boy on a bike ride near Santa Barbara was mauled by a young lion, resulting in more than 600 stitches.

Mountain lion attacks are rare. In Colorado, the last dangerous interaction occurred on Feb. 27, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The agency has documented about two-dozen attacks since 1990.

They were just passengers aboard an airplane, flying over California and having a chat. The couple was relating their adventures in hunting to the pair of fliers in the row ahead of them.

A Buckeye man recently shot and killed a mountain lion after it attacked him and his dog on an evening walk in a residential area, according to officials with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
