VENICE – The city is replacing about 400 linear feet of the Tarpon Center Drive seawall damaged by Hurricane Idalia in 2023 with a new one that will be topped by a glass flood barrier.
Seawall-protected land in Wells is assessed at $970 million, bringing in an estimated $5 million in local taxes. Maine's 3,500-mile shoreline is being reshaped by rising seas and storm surge.
