Tribal officials said the non-tribal Town of Lac du Flambeau, located within reservation land, has not paid fees to keep the road open from Sept. 12 through Oct. 12 last year — a one-month gap.
As reported last week, the Tribe said the Town of Lac du Flambeau had paid just over $500,000 as of July 2024 to avoid the barricades, but in August it could no longer sustain making monthly payments.
The Tribe and residents then reached an agreement in March 2023. The town then made a $22,000 payment to the Tribe in June 2023 to keep the roads open. Another $24,000 payment was made in July 2023.
