Mike Sumler, hype man of the Grammy Award-winning group Kool & the Gang, has died. He was 71. Sumler died in a car crash during Memorial Day weekend, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Sumler is the latest member of Kool & the Gang to pass away, following the death of drummer George Brown in 2023. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.
Kool & the Gang formed in 1969 and rose to popularity through songs such as “Celebration,” “Jungle Boogie” and “Cherish.” Sumler joined the group in 1985, according to Newsweek.
