When Empress was invited to prom, she was thrilled ... but she didn’t have a dress. Then her fairy godmother, in the form of a fashion-forward tween, stepped in to help.

MARLBOROUGH (CBS) -- Girls who need a dress for their prom or formal will have a chance Saturday to pick out one of 3,000 free dresses available at the Metrowest Princess Boutique.

The idea for Princess Awesome started in the spring of 2013 when Rebecca Melsky was shopping for her now 4-year-old daughter. When her girl turned 2, she refused to wear anything but dresses.

For every one of her 20 chemotherapy appointments, Lilli, now 5, has worn what she calls a princess gown and has not once repeated a dress. Sometimes she dresses as a Disney princess.
