Students who were on buses Tuesday morning were being taken to the closest Garland ISD campus building until conditions got safer, officials said.

Kenneth E. Pearce Jr. turned a love of music into a longtime career as a band director in Orange County Public Schools. Pearce, of Orlando, died Wednesday after a battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
