Associated Press. MOSCOW — A volcano erupted early Tuesday on Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, spewing clouds of dust 265,600 feet into the sky and covering broad areas with ash.
According to the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team, which monitors eruptions in the region, Shiveluch is 60,000 to 70,000 years old and is one of the largest volcanoes in Kamchatka.
The Shiveluch volcano has erupted on Russia’s eastern Kamchatka Peninsula, sending ash 12 miles into the sky; and volcanic dust engulfs villages.
