Panama's President-elect Jose Raul Mulino vowed to shut down a crucial migration gap through Panama that has been used by more than 500,000 migrants over the last year.

But in March, Panama’s credit rating was downgraded by the Fitch Ratings agency. The country’s economic output is expected to grow only 2.5 percent this year, down from 7.5 percent in 2023.
