Apple wants to bring some consistency to the naming of its software. The upcoming versions will be labelled based on the year, rather than the version number, Bloomberg reports.

Apple may be on the verge of a big change in the way the company names its software updates -- and it's an approach that may seem familiar to anyone who's familiar with Windows 95 or a '57 Chevy. Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Apple is rebranding its operating systems by using the last two digits of the upcoming year.

That’s not because of the usual feature announcements but because of the major change in the company’s naming scheme. Last week, Mark Gurman reported that Apple will release iOS 26 at this year’s WWDC and not iOS 19.
