Michigan’s top Republican in Washington is concerned that U.S. Rep. John James’ decision to run for governor instead of reelection could jeopardize the GOP’s hold on the seat and narrow majority in the chamber.
A special election to fill the seat of U.S. Democratic Representative Gerry Connolly, who died earlier this year, is being held in Virginia on Tuesday.
GOP State Senate President Mary Felzkowski of Tomahawk is reportedly considering a bid for the congressional seat, and Republican state Reps. Calvin Callahan of Tomahawk, Chanz Green of Grand View, Duke Tucker of Grantsburg, as well as state Sen. Romaine Quinn of Birchwood, have not ruled out campaigns of their own.
