The Fokker 100 was developed in the 1980s as a larger, updated version of the Fokker F28. This aircraft predates the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG, but also sold far fewer copies.

The Fokker 100 is a medium-sized, twin-turbofan jet airliner. As of 2017, 113 Fokker jets remain in service across the globe. The main airlines still using the aircraft are in Australia and Iran.
