Timo Berry, the artist who helped select which images to use for the stamp, credited the “sensual life force” and importance of “being proud of oneself” portrayed by Tom of Finland.

A film following the life of Tom of Finland, who died in 1991, is in production, and is due for worldwide release in 2015. Homosexuality was illlegal in Finland until 1971.
