FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — The Fall River Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its beloved K-9s. According to a post on Facebook, K-9 Joseph passed away on July 25.

Gov. Maura Healey made the announcement more than a week after a fire in a Fall River assisted living center left 10 dead.

Investigators gave updates on the fire at the Gabriel House Assisted Living Facility in Fall River on Tuesday, including possible causes of the blaze.

Healey announced $1.2 million in state funds would be made available to Fall River to hire more emergency response personnel.

It was Richard Aguiar, director of the Fall River Emergency Management Agency. Aguiar told him the situation at the Gabriel House assisted living facility was dire.
