Today, we take a very historic action that was 45 years in the making. In a few moments, I will signed an executive order to begin eliminating the Federal Department of Education, once and for all.

Trump said the order would be “returning education, very simply, back to the states where it belongs,” but he did not say which functions or funding would move from federal to state control.
