An NTSB preliminary report says the pilot of a small plane that crashed at a North Carolina airport runway raised a wheel after landing to avoid hitting a turtle.
The plane crashed just before 9 a.m. shortly after taking off from Beverly Regional Airport, according to Beverly police. The pilot, Geoffrey Andrews, 30, of Melrose, was also killed in the crash.
