The 1962 East Chicago Washington High School Senators basketball team was one game shy of winning the 1962 basketball state championship. Washington lost by three points, 84-81, to Evansville Bosse.

The city's Indiana Harbor section had already seen multiple shootings in 2025, two of them fatal, in what has been a busy year so far for the area.
