The franchise even gets its title, Dune, from the planet's nickname. And yet, in the upcoming HBO series Dune: Prophecy, Arrakis barely features at all.

The Dune: Awakening team was willing to take on this challenge, however, as they wanted their interpretation of Arrakis to be as lore-accurate as possible.

However, Arrakis wasn’t always a desert. In Dune lore, 91% of the planet was once covered by oceans, until some ancient catastrophe led to its desertification.

The first episode of Dune: Prophecy will premiere simultaneously on HBO and Max on Sunday, November 17 at 9:00 P.M. ET. From there, a new episode will drop each week until the finale on December 22.
