It appears Weiss Memorial in the Uptown neighborhood is now closed. Someone locked the doors about 7 a.m. It's the worst possible news for a diverse community. Because the neighborhood and its residents rely on the safety net hospital for healthcare, activists planned a rally in a last ditch effort to save Weiss.

The Department of Health and Human Services is removing Weiss from the Medicare and Medicaid programs, saying the hospital failed to meet their standards of care. Some reports say the hospital will close before their funding is pulled.
