Starting Memorial Day weekend, New York City’s beaches will be open for swimming from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as long as there’s a lifeguard on duty, according to the city’s Parks Department.

All city-run beaches in the five boroughs are free and open to the public. They span 14 miles. Lifeguards will be on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
According to NYC Parks, more than 7.4 million people last year visited the city's beaches, which are free to the general public and will remain open through September 7, 2025.
And with the opening of the beaches came the lifeguards. Before 10 a.m., groups of them made their way to posts across the city, from Orchard Beach in the Bronx to Rockaway Beach in Queens.
