The City of Phoenix is in the final stages of selecting a permanent police chief for the Phoenix Police Department, according to a release posted to the city’s website on Friday.

Phoenix police ended up shooting 44 people in 2018, more than in any other U.S. city including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Of the 44 people shot by Phoenix police, 23 ended in death.

According to the city of Phoenix website, approximately 8.5 acres of the property will be used for the Cactus Park Police Precinct while four acres could become a future fire station.

Phoenix City Council moved forward in June with the process to acquire the building and 12.5-acre site for a new Cactus Park police precinct and future fire station at 3035 W. Thunderbird Road.
