Destructive flooding triggered by unrelenting rain that rapidly overwhelmed the Guadalupe River has killed at least 100 people across central Texas.

The camp issued a statement, saying that Ragsdale was present when the floods occurred and was unable to escape to safety, even though Heart O' the Hills was not in session at the time.

Heart O' the Hills became a summer camp in the early 1950s. Ragsdale met her husband Richard “Dick” Howell Jr. in 1984. A Navy veteran, Howell died in June 2022 at the age of 84. They had one son.
