A rare sequel to the legendary tale of Merlin and King Arthur was found on a medieval manuscript that had been stitched together and repurposed as a book cover.

Torn, folded and stitched, rare tales of Merlin shapeshifting into King Arthur’s court and Sir Gawain gaining power from the sun were bound into a book of property records from the 1500s.

The two pages are from a 13th century copy of the “Suite Vulgate du Merlin.” The manuscript, handwritten by a medieval scribe in Old French, served as the sequel to the legend of King Arthur.
