One person has died and at least a dozen people were injured Sunday when a boat crashed into a ferry off the Memorial Causeway Bridge and then fled the scene, authorities said.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — One person is dead and another has been arrested following a boating crash near Marsh Branch Boat Ramp in Laurel County on Tuesday, according to an arrest citation.

What started as a birthday celebration ended in tragedy when eight of the 10 passengers on board died after the boat capsized on June 21.

Don Peace was charged with operating a watercraft while intoxicated or under the influence and vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol.

The NTSB has issued a preliminary report on a boat that capsized on Lake Tahoe in June, killing eight and injuring two.

Only one person immediately put on a life jacket as conditions worsened, the preliminary report found.

The three men had been fishing and swimming south of the boat ramp in Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park before being reported missing, officials said.
