Alien: Romulus i s a breakout hit new addition to the Alien franchise — and now that film has a prequel story that reveals what happened to the original xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s Alien.

As noted, “Alien: Earth” is set to premiere August 12 on FX and Hulu (or August 13 on Disney Plus in the U.K.). Somebody get me a cryosleep pod, I can’t wait that long.

However, there are many reasons why “Alien: Romulus” became my favorite movie of 2024, and that’s not just because it’s part of the iconic sci-fi franchise.

But technically, this new movie is a standalone “interquel,” which takes place between the events of the first movie Alien (1979) and the second movie Aliens (1986).
